Driven to Win: GET racing ’s Standout 23/24 Season

End-of-Season Report 23/24 – GET racing TU Dortmund
In the 2023/24 season, GET racing – the Formula Student team of TU Dortmund – was able to impress at several competitions through consistent performance and targeted technical improvements. Over several months, we focused on further developing our autonomous race car, earning top placements at Formula Student Germany, Formula Student France, and Formula Student East.
A particular highlight of the season was winning the Zeiss Real-time Video Processing Award at Formula Student Germany. This award recognized the innovative implementation of a real-time image processing solution in our autonomous driving system. Following an unexpected failure of our LiDAR sensor, we quickly advanced a camera-only environment detection system, which enabled precise surroundings detection without LiDAR.

At Formula Student France, the team secured 2nd place overall. Strong and consistent performances in the Endurance, Efficiency, Skidpad, and AutoCross categories played a key role in this success. These results demonstrate the technical stability and flexibility of the FS224 in the manual driving disciplines.
At Formula Student East in Hungary, we achieved 3rd place in the efficiency category. Through targeted adjustments to the driving strategy and energy consumption optimization, we significantly improved the balance between speed and consumption. This enabled an efficient overall concept and contributed to our ranking in this discipline.
These successes would not have been possible without the support of Eurocircuits. Thanks to their help, we were able to manufacture our fully self-developed electronics with precision and professionalism, giving us a decisive edge in vehicle design.
A particularly notable achievement is our Battery Management System (BMS), which is no larger than a credit card. In addition, Eurocircuits’ production capabilities enabled us to directly couple our Vehicle Control Unit with the Driverless PC, resulting in an extremely compact integration within the vehicle. These advancements in electronics design were crucial in making the FS224 the most refined race car in the team’s history.
