We are Zurich UAS Racing, and we are one of the newest Swiss teams in the formula student world. In summer 2022 we managed to drive for the first time at races with our car Akio which got us a lot of important feedback from the experts.

Therefore, we could define several goals which we want to achieve for the next season.

  • Developing a reliable accumulator monitoring system which fulfills the strict safety rules of an electric racecar.
  • Install sensors for an enhanced driving data analysis to learn how our car reacts on the track and what we can improve.
  • Adapting to a 4-wheel driven car
  • Finally implementing a fully working driverless system on our electric car

Thanks to Eurocircuits we have found the perfect partner to bring our goals to success since we can produce all the needed electronic circuits with them!

Thanks to the fast delivery and the easy-to-use online PCB calculator of Eurocircuits we can further optimise and test all circuits until the races and still be able to have the material just in time. Thanks to this it is possible to manufacture all the following system crucial PCBs at Eurocircuits:

Accumulator Management Board

Our new designed accumulator management board is used as a connection between the hardware in our 600V accumulator and the control units of our vehicle. It is equipped with a microcontroller and several digital and analog In- and Outputs to handle the accumulator functions such as charging, discharging, coupling and so on.

Sensor Converter Boards

To further analyse the driving dynamics of the car, 8 additional sensors were placed. To read in those signals, several different circuit boards are necessary to convert the different signals so that our micro controller board can process it. The processed sensor data is then transferred to the control unit over CAN where it is checked and transmitted further to an online storage system.

High Voltage PCBs

Because of the change to 4-wheel drive, the high voltage path of our electric system needs to be redesigned and adapted for the new specification. Especially the pre- and discharge circuit need to handle the additional capacitive load. We also improved the safety of the discharge by adding temperature depending on resistors to make sure that the system cannot overheat during operation.

Driverless PCB

To ensure safety even when the car is in driverless mode, a special observation PCB is needed. It will be observing the driving state of the car and triggers an emergency shutdown if some implausibility is detected. It is also the power stage drive the autonomous system brake valves.
